SERVICES PROVIDED
At Summer of Speech, we provide in-home or teletherapy pediatric speech and language services with certified speech-language pathologists, to address a variety of speech and language disorders, including articulation, receptive and expressive language, and literacy/reading during the summer.
ARTICULATION AND PHONOLOGY
An Articulation Disorder is a speech sound disorder characterized by the atypical production of speech sounds. A Phonological Disorder is characterized by an atypical pattern in which sounds are put together to make words.
RECEPTIVE AND EXPRESSIVE LANGUAGE
A Receptive Language Disorder is characterized difficulty with understanding and comprehension, and difficulty processing information. An Expressive Language Disorder is characterized by difficulty expressing thoughts and ideas, difficulty with vocabulary, and difficulty forming complex sentences.
LITERACY AND PHONEMIC AWARENESS
Phonemic awareness is the ability to recognize the individual sounds in words, or phonemes, and is a fundamental literacy skill. It's the first of the five principles of reading and is an essential component to mastering the alphabetic principle. Literacy is defined as the ability to read, write, speak and listen in a way that lets us communicate effectively and make sense of the world.
APRAXIA OF SPEECH
Apraxia of speech (AOS) is a neurologic speech disorder that reflects an impaired capacity to plan or program sensorimotor commands necessary for directing movements that result in phonetically and prosodically normal speech.
